Hello. My name is Maria Susan Guarino (she/her). I identify as a scholar, creative, and activist. I believe in the power of art to create space for people who might never have connected otherwise.

Currently, I am pursuing my doctorate in Education in New York City. I am working with arts-based research methods and disability studies, asking how artistic process (re)shape how we come to knowledge together.

I gravitate less towards questions of form and feel more interested in engagements with process. For me, “art” is not about a fixed product, but about ways of being together. Therefore, my work engages with a range of artistic inquiries, encounters, and materials, including poetry, performance, sculpture, textile work, pulp, and collage.

Each of these encounters reveals something about what we might call the “body” and its tricks- both within and beyond the human skinsuit.
